Forces
What is a Force?
A Force is a unique measurement that comprises physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energy. It is inherent in everything in the universe, from space dust to a kitten to a divine being that creates a new universe.
What are the different categories of Forces?
For the purposes of this game, we will focus on those beings that have 10 or more Forces. The different categories are:
Mortal - 10 Forces
Heroic - 11 - 15 Forces
Divine - 16 - 20 Forces
Deity - 21+ Forces
Do I have to deal with Forces?
No. It is presented as an alternative method of character development. If you are happy telling stories in a Mortal milieu, then feel free to ignore this system. Increased Forces are the foundation for character development in Heroic, Divine, and Deity milieux.
How many Forces do I start with?
You have as many Forces as the GM says you have.
How do I gain a Force?
If you are attempting to bridge a Force Category, such as Mortal to Heroic, then work with your GM to find the condition that satisfies gaining the transitional Force. Examples may include being blessed by a deity, being exposed to cosmic radiation or being bitten by a radioactive spider.
Gaining a Force within a category can occur in one of two ways, depending on the type of game your GM wants to tell. The first method is to simply have an XP Cost associated with the Force.
An alternative method is to treat this like a Campbellian Heroic Journey. In this instance, you will continue to work with your DM to determine the character development milestones that will increase your Force count.
What are the benefits of gaining a Force?
There are two main benefits from gaining a Force.
The first benefit is to have all of your Attributes and their corresponding maximums increased by 10.
The second benefit is that you may purchase Talents, Flaws, Techniques or types of magic that are only available to beings with a certain number of Forces.
Esoteric magic, for example, is only available for Heroic Force characters.
